It is a sad day indeed. A mental health nurse once stated, that GID is listed as a mental illness 80% curable by surgeries and hormone therapies. Is there any data available on how much an untreated TS costs the government in mental health care on average vs. the cost of surgery? I think that would be the first point on fighting it.

As for other provinces that still have coverage, BC covers top surgery and hysto for FTM's but not bottom. They also cover MTF surgery but I have heard you still have to pay your travel costs and stay at the residency. Ontario covers it now but apparently has strict gatekeepers. Quebec covers MTF and FTM surgeries but they don't like the Montreal clinic for whatever reason and do not send people there. I know a guy who moved there from ON to get covered and he said they could pick to go pretty much anywhere else, Thailand, Europe, whatever, just not Montreal.

I also think this is a purely politicial decision by them. They save 53 million on chiropractors and a drop in the ocean 700,000 on TS surgeries.
