Delisting fight

Many of you will no doubt know by now, that as of 2PM Alberta time today, Genital Reconstruction Surgery was delisted by the Alberta government.

GRS is an essential surgery for those who need it. Not everyone needs it, but for those who do, it has proven time and again to be a life saving surgery. NO other surgical procedure on the books, has as high a success rate, bar none. (in excess of 90% success). It greatly improves the lives and mental stability of TS women. It allows them to change their medications to the point they suffer fewer side effects (preop HRT can be VERY nasty to the body, from crippling side effects to death being not unheard of).

Please, for those who can, write in to the Alberta government. Contact information for MLAs (Members of the Legislative Assembly) and other cabinet members and the premier can be found at http://alberta.ca/home/

Let them know that you disapprove of the delisting. That TS people's health DOES matter. That ultimately, it's a lot cheaper to pay for GRS, than for the various other health problems that can crop up as a direct result of being on HRT (Cancer, DVT, GI damage, DEATH) when preop. (the antiandrogens used, can cause SEVERE problems, and HRT can cause testicular and ovarian cancers to develop in some cases. Hint, this is what killed Robert Eads of "Southern Comfort" fame).

EVERY letter, both from within Alberta and from without, matters. 3D, snail mail has the most impact.

In addition to delisting, the government recently decided to NOT add gender identity and gender presentation protections to the provincial human rights laws. These issues are DIRECTLY related. If the government is REQUIRED to see TS people (and TG as well) as HUMAN, then they MUST provide human rights such as health care. By all means, work that in to the letters.

Remember to spell check letters and to proofread them. (Hint, to, too and two are not all one in the same, lol!)

Thanks
